If you live in West Lancashire and have a disability, you may qualify for an English National Bus Concession (Nowcard).


English National Bus Concession (Nowcard)

Holders of this pass are eligible to receive free local off peak bus travel anywhere in England. Free travel is available from 9.30am onwards Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays.

 

A 'local bus service' is classed as:

· any type of town bus service

· a rural service which observes all bus stops

· a rural service with limited stops but where the distance between stops is less than 15 miles. 

 

Services that observe stops over 15 miles are regarded as 'express services' and are excluded from the English National Bus Concession Scheme. The pass is not valid for travel in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

 

In addition to the above statutory entitlement, West Lancashire District Council customers who opt for this concession will also benefit from the following discretionary enhancements:

 

· Free travel on community transport within West Lancashire (e.g. Dial a Ride and Tarleton County Cars). Available from 9.30am onwards Monday to Friday and all day on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

 

· Journeys starting or finishing in West Lancashire, pre 9.30a.m will be charged a flat fare of 50p per single journey for West Lancashire English Bus Pass holders.

 

· Free travel on Blackpool Trams and Fleetwood to Knott End ferry. Available from 9.30am onwards Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

Do you qualify?
You can apply for the English National Bus Concession if you meet the following criteria:
· Blind or partially sighted
· Profoundly or severely deaf
· Without speech
· Long term disability or injury which seriously impairs the ability to walk
· Without the long term use of both arms
· Significant degree of learning disability
· Would be refused on physical fitness grounds if applied for a driving licence

 

How to obtain your pass
If you think you may be entitled to receive an English National bus pass you should get in touch with us on the contact details below. You will need to provide documentation to confirm your disability, age and National Insurance Number. New claimants for a an English National bus pass will also need a photograph - which will be taken by us at the time of application.

 

Free Travel English National Bus Concession

Bus passes allowing free travel 24/7 are only available to people who hold or who have held a WLDC bus pass stamped ‘free travel throughout Lancashire’. If you hold one of these passes you will be entitled to:

· Free all day bus travel on local journeys starting within the boundary of West Lancashire.

· Free all day travel on community transport in West Lancashire (e.g. dial a Ride and Tarleton County Cars).
