The Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963 requires any person
who keeps a boarding establishment for cats and/or dogs to be
licensed by the Local Authority.
The aim of the licensing requirements is to achieve certain
standards in the management of the accommodation and to ensure
precautions against disease and fire.
The number of dogs and cats that may be accommodated will be
specified on the licence along with other specific
conditions.
The Council inspects all licensed premises, which may include a
veterinary surgeon or practitioner. If the inspection is
satisfactory the licence will be granted.
