The Local Government Ombudsmen investigate complaints about
councils and certain other bodies.
They investigate complaints about most council matters including
housing, planning and benefits.
It is an independent, impartial and free service. The Ombudsmen can
investigate complaints about how the council has done
something.
But they cannot question what a council has done simply because
someone does not agree with it. Please note that, in accordance
with new arrangements introduced in April 2009 by the Ombudsman
Service, they are unable to deal with complaints about the
Council's services until the matter has been through all stages of
the Council's own complaints procedure. There are some limited
exceptions to this rule.
For more information, and to find out what to do if you have a
complaint, please visit the Local Government Ombudsman (external
link) website.
