Each year at
the Annual Meeting, the Council appoints a new Mayor and Deputy
Mayor from among the 54 Council Members.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and their Consorts, attend a
variety of civic functions during the year to represent West
Lancashire.
The current Mayor is Cllr Rob Bailey. Rob, who represents
the Knowsley ward in Ormskirk, will serve as
Mayor until May 2012.
The Deputy Mayor is Cllr Councillor Paul
Greenall.
Mayoress' charities
One of the other important roles the Mayor has is to raise money
for their chosen charities.
This year's fundraising
efforts will help the Women’s Refuge and Community First
Responders. The money raised over the next 12 months will be used
to help Domestic Violence Support Services (West Lancs) and
Community Heartbeat, which purchases lifesaving defibrillators for
use particularly in rural areas by West Lancashire Community First
Responders..
Rob said: "These are two organisations working hard to help
the people of West Lancs and we’re proud to be supporting them.
“The refuge works hard to protect some of the most vulnerable
families in the borough and is a cause which deserves our support.
By supporting the First Responders we hope to be able to save lives
by allowing them to buy much-needed defibrillators for some of our
most rural communities.”
