The law allows anyone included in a Register of Electors to
apply for a postal or proxy vote.
Postal votes
If you'd prefer to vote by post instead of going to a polling
station you need to apply for a postal vote. Application forms
are available to order online or by phone:
Complete the form and return it to the address below or fax it
to 01695 585050.
Postal votes can be sent anywhere, either inside or outside the
UK (if, for example, you are going on holiday). Remember,
though, that if the address is outside the UK it will take time to
reach you and for you to return it in order for your vote to be
counted.
If you move you must tell the Electoral Registration Officer
immediately, or you may lose your postal vote.
Please remember that there is always a last day to receive
postal vote applications, or to change your voting arrangements, in
time for a particular election (11 working days before
an election day)
Absent vote signature
refresh
If you have had a postal
vote for approximately 5 years please look out for an
"Absent Vote Signature Refresh" form being sent to your
address in.
All you need to do is sign and
return the form by Monday 27 February 2012. Failure to do
this will result in your existing absent vote
facility being cancelled and you will have to vote in person
or make a new application.
If you no longer want to vote by
post you must respond by ticking the relevant box on the form and
return it to us as soon as possible in order to avoid any
unnecessary reminders.
If you have a disability which
means that you now either cannot provide a signature or sign in a
consistent and distinctive way, or have difficulty reading and
writing, please contact us.
Proxy votes
A proxy voter is someone who you appoint to vote on your behalf if
you can't get to the polling station on election day. If you decide
to appoint a proxy you must find someone who is willing to vote for
you. Application forms are available online or by phone:
Complete the form and return it to the address below.
Please remember that there is always a last day to
receive proxy vote applications in time for a particular
election (6 working days before election day). However, in
cases where unforeseen illness or incapacity occurs,
applications may be made up until 5.00pm on election day.
Note: if you wish to change your voting
arrangements, for example cancel your postal vote and appoint a
proxy to vote on your behalf the deadline is 11 working days before
the election,
