Date set for cash office closures
The 9th May has been set as the date to close the Council’s cash
office facilities in Ormskirk and Skelmersdale.
This means that no payments can be made at either of the
locations at the customer service points in 52 Derby Street,
Ormskirk or at the Concourse in Skelmersdale.
In anticipation of the move and to ensure that customers know
their options, the Council has engaged an ‘Alternative Payment
Advisor’, who has been visiting the two sites to give residents
advice about the best ways they can continue to pay their
bills.
This has been a positive step forward and customers are being
reassured that they can still pay their rents and Council tax in
cash at local Post Offices and Paypoint/Payzone outlets, which are
usually nearer to where people live than the Council’s cash offices
with longer opening hours.
Customers also have a number of other easy options to pay bills
including on the Council’s website, over the phone or in some cases
via Direct Debit - all of which can be done quickly and easily
without leaving the comfort of their own home.
John Gardner, Executive Manager for Finance, said:"The way our
customers can pay their bills is changing in light of the world’s
increasing movement towards technology. Therefore, in order to save
the Council taxpayer money, the decision was taken in December to
close the cash offices by the end of June and we have now set the
date for 9th May. This still gives our customers plenty of
opportunities to find out the best way for them to pay their own
bills. We realise that some people may not be able to adapt to the
changes so quickly and we are still reassuring residents that they
can pay bills by cash at local Post Offices and Paypoint/Payzone
outlets."
Alternative methods of payment include: Direct Debit, Standing
Order, Cheques by post, Bank Giro Credit, Debit Card, Post
Office/Paypoint and Credit Card. In many cases people can still pay
cash at local Post Offices and Paypoint Outlets if they have
arranged this facility through the Council.
