Get your skates on in Tanhouse

21st January 2008, 08/13

Get your skates on in Tanhouse!
No need to wait for the snow to skate in Tanhouse following news that a temporary ice-rink is coming to town again as part of the £3.7million to improve parts of the area.

Next weekend, from 25th to 27th January, there will be free ice-skating facilities set up for the community to take advantage of at Tanhouse Community Centre, Ennerdale.

This latest exciting initiative is part of the Neighbourhood Management project to make Digmoor, Moorside and parts of Tanhouse cleaner, greener and safer.

The ice-rink initially came to the Digmoor area in November and it proved to be so popular with the community that the Neighbourhood Board decided to launch a second skating bonanza to put a stop to those January blues!

Margaret Highton, Chairman of the Neighbourhood Board, said: "The temporary ice-skating facilities we organised before Christmas were such a great success that we promised we would hold further sessions in the New Year. So I'd urge the community to pull together to make sure that it's another big hit again."

The ice-rink will be open to the public from 2.30pm to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 12noon on Sunday, sessions are free and are open to all ages.. The remainder of the sessions will be used by schools and community groups.

MP Rosie Cooper, Chair of the Local Strategic Partnership, said: "Once again I'm so pleased that the Local Strategic Partnership has been able to support initiatives that benefit the whole community though the Safer, Stronger, Communities Fund and I look forward to seeing lots more happening in 2008."

Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, added: "I'm sure that children and the adults too will make the most of this exciting initiative, which is a great start to the New Year. Lots of other schemes have been funded through the £3.7m to make the areas greener, cleaner and safer and the Neighbourhood Board will ensure that the money continues to be spent on priories that matter to local people."
Anyone who would like more information about the free skating sessions or the project in general can contact Chris Skinkis/Karen Warmington at the Neighbourhood Management Office, on 01695 737808 or email neighbourhood.management@westlancsdc.gov.uk.
