Put 30th January in your diary

22nd January 2008, 08/14

Put 30th January in your diary now for popular debate!
There are only a few spaces left for West Lancashire District Council's 'Council Meeting as an Assembly' - so don't forget to book and put it in your diary!

Only days are left to get your hands on a free ticket for the event on Wednesday 30th January at 7.30pm at Banks Leisure Centre, Greaves Hall Avenue, Banks

This year's two topics for debate are: 'Ormskirk Bypass' and 'Creating a Sustainable Rural Economy', which have been chosen because of their district-wide importance. Experts on each of the topics will give presentations and then residents will have an opportunity to debate these matters with key stakeholders and councillors.

Also on the night, young people will be presented with certificates for their work on a special educational project for producing a DVD using their own artworks and animation. Stills of the DVD will be displayed around the venue on the night. The winner of the Chairman's award for 2007/08 will also be revealed.

Dave Guest, BBC North West's Social Affairs Correspondent, will once again compere the event and encourage participation.

Cllr Geoff Roberts, Leader of West Lancashire District Council, said: "Each year this event grows in popularity as it is an important opportunity for local people to take part in lively debates. This year's topics for discussion have been chosen as usual after public advertisement and I'm sure that people will want to know all about the latest developments in these district-wide issues. However, I must stress that the meeting is not the place for people to raise individual complaints or ask questions about issues of personal interest because they should be raised with the Council in the normal way."

To reserve your free tickets or for more information visit our assembly pages or call 01695 585016/585017.

The District Council will also be recording the event so that residents can watch it afterwards on the Council's website or order the DVD to watch in the comfort of their own home.
