Play ball and sign up for football
tournaments
Sign up to score in a new Sunday league that’s to be launched at
Banks Leisure Centre.
The sports centre is looking to kick-start Sunday football
tournaments and is looking for teams to come forward and make use
of the fantastic Astroturf pitches.
The pitches, which have recently benefited from a £100,000
makeover, were officially opened by Everton’s top midfielder Leon
Osman in February and have proved to be a big hit with the local
community.
Bill Lloyd, Chairman of the West Lancashire Community Leisure
Trust, said: "Since we unveiled the new pitches to our customers
they have been delighted with the new facilities and are making the
most of them. But we want to increase useage even further."
Already there is a Tuesday night league up and running and a
5-a-side tournament is held once a month at the centre too.
Youngsters are also making good use of the football facilities
and years 5 and 6 pupils from St Stephen’s Primary School are
playing in a competition on Friday 11 July, from 10.30am to
12noon.
But now the leisure centre is looking to expand its football
tournaments even further and is encouraging interested teams to get
in touch if they are interested in taking part in a Sunday
league.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services and
Health, said: "This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in
football to sign up to take part in a local league and enjoy
playing the sport in a friendly environment."
