Help in a pack for heritage lessons
Work pioneered by youngsters at Pinfold Primary School in
Scarisbrick is about to help with lessons for children and their
teachers in other schools across the district.
Year three Pinfold children used a pilot resource pack, produced by
the district council, and aimed at helping their teachers with
lessons in heritage and environment. It proved so successful that
it is now available to all schools.
The Council's Heritage Section has produced the pack after getting
reaction from the children and staff involved in the pilot scheme
earlier this year.
It includes a wide assortment of teaching aids that can be used in
a variety of situations both in and out of the classroom. All
sections are linked to the national curriculum to make it easy for
teachers to see how best to use the resource.
The pack also includes ideas for working alone or in groups,
worksheets, supporting games, a handling collection and loads of
information and ideas for projects that will make learning about
local heritage fun.
Rob Pratten, year three teacher at Pinfold Primary School, said:
"The pack was a fun learning tool that helped pupils connect with
their environment through games, activities, photographs, maps and
other materials.
"Well done on creating such an interesting, detailed, useful and
enjoyable resource for local schools."
Councillor Ian Grant, Portfolio Holder for Planning and
Regeneration, said:
"We are lucky in West Lancashire to have a rich architectural and
historic heritage set in a superb environment and it is important
that we help citizens of the future to appreciate and understand it
better."
This is likely to a popular Council service and as there is only
one pack available it will need to be booked. To book the pack or
