Be a model for the day at Open Studio
Do you fancy being a model for the day? Then why not register
for a chance to have your portrait drawn as part of the Open Studio
celebrations.
Lots of plans are in the pipeline to make this first ever,
visual arts event in West Lancashire a massive success - and you
can be a big part of it too.
Local artist Dan Greenham, who is also chairman of the Open
Studio Collective, is looking for three people to draw for his
portrait sessions at Chapel Gallery over the bank holiday
weekend.
Chapel Gallery has arranged for special opening hours on the
Saturday 29, Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August and Dan will be
demonstrating portraiture painting, using a range of techniques,
which can be used to capture likeness of the character. He is
looking for three volunteers who can spare a few hours to sit
whilst he shows the public the work that goes on to create a
portrait. The chosen models will then be given their own portrait
at the end of the event.
Anyone who is interested can register their interest with Chapel
Gallery, and must include their name, age and contact details.
Three lucky names will then be drawn out of the hat. Contact the
team on 01695 571328. Alternatively, pop into the gallery, St
Helens Road, which is open from 10am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to
Saturday.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for anybody who would like
to be a model for the day and who would love to have their portrait
done. We’re not looking for specific age groups or any other
criteria - just people who can spare a few hours and are
enthusiastic. If you’re not chosen don’t worry as you can still go
along to the gallery and watch Dan work his artistic magic. And
there’s plenty of other events during the week-long festival to
keep audiences entertained - so don’t miss it."
The Open Studio event runs from Saturday 29 August to Sunday 6
September and includes artists and craft makers opening up their
own studios so that people can see what goes on behind the scenes
to create their pieces. The work on show will range from sculpture,
photography, embroidery, printmaking, glasswork, ceramics and
jewellery to paintings, portraits and artwork on badges, bookmarks
and bags.
A number of venues will be showcasing the work of artists,
including Chapel Gallery, Cedar Farm Gallery, Mere Sands Wood, Mill
House Gallery, the Concourse Shopping Centre and other smaller
studios and shops.
An exciting events programme has also been planned which
includes everything from exhibitions to demonstrations and
practical hands-on work.
The event is being organised by West Lancashire Borough
Council’s Arts Development Service and the Open Studio Collective
following a successful Arts Council England lottery
application.
Artists who are interested can actually become members of the
Open Studio Collective. Membership forms are available form Jane
Coyle, secretary of the Open Studio Collective, email
jm.coyle1@btinternet.com
or Jenni Ashcroft Outreach and Education Officer at the
Chapel Gallery on 01695 571328.
