Talented youngsters have chance to exhibit their
artwork!
Creative youngsters have a great opportunity to exhibit
their works of art by entering this year’s Youth Open Exhibition at
Chapel Gallery.
Application forms are now available for young artists of
all abilities and talents who want to submit their work for
selection towards a final exhibition at the popular town centre art
gallery.
Now in its fourth year, the event is similar to the summer
West Lancashire Open Exhibition for adults and gives young people a
unique chance to showcase their talents to visitors in a
professional environment.
‘Imaginary Landscapes’ is the theme for this year, where
young people aged between 8 to 18 years old can let their
imagination run wild as to the kind of environment they’d like to
live in. It could be a magical mystery fairyland; a hard concrete
architectural landscape fit for skateboarding; a field filled with
sweets and chocolates; or even your own farm with weird and
wonderful creatures.
Youngsters can use their imagination to create their own
invention - in 2D or in relief, on card or paper, using paints,
collage, prints or photography.
There are various prizes for winners in the different age
categories (8 to 11, 12 to 15 and 16 to 18) and for the first time
there is also a family category, so the whole family can get
involved in creating a masterpiece too.
The deadline for entries is 17 October and judges will
then select the best pieces. The artworks chosen will then form an
exhibition in the gallery, which will be unveiled in
November.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community
Services, said: "This will be the fourth year we have held the
Youth Open and it is growing in popularity each year because it
gives young people a fantastic opportunity to exhibit their works
in a professional environment. The theme for this year is a real
fun one and I’m sure we’ll see lots of unusual and inspiring
imaginary landscapes! This is also a great chance for young people
looking to develop their creativity, so I’d encourage them to pick
up an application form and submit their work."
