Treasure trail takes you on a creative journey!

Discover hidden surprises as we take you on an adventure through West Lancashire and beyond for the Open Studio’s fun treasure trail.

As part of the plans for this first ever visual arts event in West Lancashire, organisers have put together an exciting activity that will take people on a creative journey in the world of art.

Artists Jack Doyle and Caroline Barket have been commissioned to create a treasure trail for all the family to enjoy during the Open Studio event, which runs from Saturday 29 August to Sunday 6 September.

Participants must first collect the official event programme, which contains a map. They must then travel to the studios and venues that are taking part to find the stamps and images, including Chapel Gallery, Cedar Farm Gallery, Mere Sands Wood, Mill House Gallery and the Concourse Shopping Centre.

It’s a real creative experience with plenty of prizes to be won for the different parts of the trail, so the more places you visit and stamps you collect - the more surprises are in store for you!

Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: "The treasure trail is an exciting part of the event programme and promises a journey of creativity and fun for all the family. All the venues will have information about it so you can start and end your adventure anywhere on the map, as long as you collect the stamps to receive your prizes. Whilst on your travels you will also be able to see all the wonderful work of our artists."

Throughout the Open Studio event, artists and craft makers will be opening up their own studios so that people can see what goes on behind the scenes to create their pieces. The work on show will range from sculpture, photography, embroidery, printmaking, glasswork, ceramics and jewellery to paintings, portraits and craft items such as badges, bookmarks and bags.

A number of venues will be showcasing the work of artists as well as individual studios and shops.

An exciting event programme has also been planned which includes everything from exhibitions to demonstrations and practical hands-on work.

The event is being organised by West Lancashire Borough Council’s Arts Development Service and the Open Studio Collective following a successful Arts Council England lottery application.
