Council gives shoppers money-saving Christmas parking treats

Festive shoppers will be quids in if they head to Ormskirk this Christmas because the Council is offering some ‘good will’ parking deals.

From Monday 14 December until Christmas Eve visitors will be able to save whilst they shop. Anyone who buys a pay and display ticket in one of the Council's designated car parks in Ormskirk, will receive one hour's extra parking for free on top of the parking period they have paid for. This special offer applies to all pay and display car parks with the exception of Two Saints Retail Park and Derby Street (as both already have limited free parking all year round).

And just to make sure that shoppers don’t miss any last minutes bargains and treats for their loved ones, there are extra markets planned in the run-up to Christmas too!

In addition to the normal Thursday and Saturday markets, the town centre will be hosting extra markets on Wednesday 16, Monday 21st and Wednesday 23 December. With over 100 stalls, set in the heart of the town around the famous Clock Tower, the market attracts hundreds of bargain hunters, so whatever yuletide treats visitors are looking for they are sure to find them all here.

Cllr Martin Forshaw, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transportation, said: Offering extra markets and Christmas parking deals is a fantastic way to encourage even more visitors to Ormskirk town centre over the festive period. I look forward to seeing the streets of Ormskirk bustling with seasonal shoppers."

Regarding parking deals, motorists should be aware that the extra free hour will not be shown on the pay and display ticket purchased from the machine on the car parks. For example, if you buy a ticket at 10am for one hour's parking the ticket will show an expiry time of 11am. But, during the special offer period, you will be able to park until 12noon. Notices explaining the offer will be on display at the car parks and all car park attendants will allow for the extra hour.
