New year, new makeover for sheltered
housing
The new year is set
to bring a £1/4 million facelift to benefit elderly residents in
sheltered housing in Skelmersdale and Up Holland.
Major revamps are planned by West Lancs
District Council at The Dell, Up Holland and Victoria Court,
Skelmersdale, and work is scheduled to start in March.
The improvements will include:
- Refurbishing and redecorating the corridors, laundry rooms and
communal lounges
- Improving the guest bedrooms
- Outdoor work on landscaping, seating, lighting and garden
access
- Provision of mobility scooter stores
- Better parking where possible
Cllr Val Hopley, portfolio holder for housing,
said: “The work at The Dell and Victoria Court will provide
much-needed new equipment and furniture in the kitchens and
communal areas and there will also be
new decorations, carpets and curtains. Along with the
outdoor work, this will give both schemes a bright new look for
2009 that I am sure will be much appreciated by all the
residents.
“It’s part of an investment programme by
the Council to improve sheltered housing and bring benefits to the
lives of hundreds of elderly tenants adding up to more than half a
million pounds over the last year. We have already carried out
similar work at Hillock Close in Scarisbrick and Evenwood Court in Tanhouse as part of our commitment to make
improvements in the sheltered
housing schemes in our district.”
