Countryside events programme for 2009 – out
now!

Be more active and experience West Lancashire’s stunning
countryside. And with a new countryside events programme for 2009,
there are even more reasons to enjoy the great outdoors…
Join West Lancashire District Council’s Countryside Rangers at a
variety of activities throughout the year. Every month you can
enjoy events at locations such as Ruff Wood, Hunter’s Hill Quarry
and Beacon Country Park. All events are free, so pick up this
year’s programme to find out more!
If you take an interest in the environment or would like to
learn, visiting our countryside sites is a great opportunity to
meet likeminded people. Discover special techniques to support
wildlife and take part in conservation activities. You can even
improve your health by coming along to our seasonal walks.
The Rangers are hosting fun, family-orientated events, including
arts and craft sessions, a stargazing night and a kite-flying
spectacle. Look out for the Green Fayre at Beacon Country Park,
which is a weekend of spectacular arena shows like dog display
teams, birds of prey demonstrations, stalls selling local products
and a children’s fairground. There is also a Junior Rangers Club
for children aged 5-13 that have a keen interest in nature.
Events in February include:

Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "The Council’s countryside sites are some of West
Lancashire’s best attractions and this year we have organised many
fun activities for residents to enjoy. These events are a great way
to be more active and experience West Lancashire’s wonderful
countryside locations. And because all events are free, you could
even save money!"
