Only days left to order your ticket for crime
event!
Tickets are going like hot cakes for the ‘Face the People’ crime
event - so hurry to get yours before it’s too late.
There are still a few places left
for the question and answer session that has been organised by the
West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership on Wednesday 18 March,
starting 7.30pm at Edge Hill University’s Wilson Centre, St Helens
Road, Ormskirk.
It’s a great opportunity for people
to have their say and also to find out more about what the
different agencies are doing to tackle crime and the fear of
crime.
The main theme of the night is alcohol, which has an impact on
communities because it can result in anti social behaviour, crime
and people’s health. Dave Guest, BBC North West’s Social Affairs
Correspondent, will compere the event and stimulate debate.
Central Lancashire NHS Primary Care
Trust will be doing the first presentation, which will focus on the
health implications of excessive drinking and what’s happening in
West Lancashire to tackle these problems, such as a campaign
against proxy sales and producing an alcohol strategy. This will be
followed by questions from the public.
Lancashire Constabulary will then
do a presentation on the enforcement role of the police, such as
seizing alcohol from underage children, or working with licensees
regarding underage sales. Again, the audience will have the
opportunity to ask questions on this presentation.
This will be followed by a section on written questions that
have been submitted in advance on any topic for partners to address
on the evening. At the end of the meeting there will be an
opportunity for questions on any community safety topic and for
attendees to discuss issues with members of the Community Safety
Partnership, which includes representatives from West Lancashire
District Council, Police, Fire, Primary Care Trust and County
Council.
Cllr Paul Greenall, Portfolio
Holder for Community Safety, said: "Almost all tickets have been
reserved for this first-time event because people recognise that
it’s a unique opportunity to ask important questions and to find
out what we and our partners are doing to make you feel safer. We
also decided to choose the theme around alcohol because of its
impact on health and crime. By focusing on drinking habits we hope
it will have a positive contribution and result in less crime and
better health in the community. So make sure you book your ticket
to find out what we’re doing about it in West Lancashire."
There is still time to submit questions in advance of the
meeting by no later than 16 March. Questions should be of a general
nature and not specific to individual circumstances. To submit a
question or to reserve your free ticket, please contact Jill Jones
on 01695 585017 or email jill.jones@westlancsdc.gov.uk
