Park life improvements for Burscough

Work has started to improve the environment at a popular park in Burscough

West Lancashire District Council has organised the works to enhance facilities at Richmond Park and complement the existing children's play area and multi-use games area.

Essential maintenance work to benefit the community will include:

  • Planting flowers and trees
  • Installation of CCTV camera to overlook the park
  • New furniture
  • Tree management
  • Drainage works
  • Demolition of old changing rooms

For safety reasons, the park will be closed to the public from 23 March to 3 April whilst the first phase of the enhancement programme takes place. This will include felling of existing old and diseased trees and replanting with new stock.

The great news is that the park will re-open for the Easter holidays so that children and families don’t miss out on using the park during the school break.

It will then close again from 20 April to 1 May and this second phase will solve drainage problems.

Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: "We are committed to improving our parks and Richmond Park is a popular site because it’s well used by the locals. This is why we have taken the decision to organise works so that it can reopen for the Easter holidays. Once the scheme has been completed it will really enhance the park and make it look more attractive."
