Put a spring in your step during March
Every weekend during March you can enjoy West Lancashire's parks
and countryside at a series of outdoor activities. It's a fantastic
opportunity to mark the new season and make the most of your local
green spaces.
Team up with West Lancs District Council's Rangers to support
wildlife and take part in conservation events at Beacon Country
Park, Up Holland and Coronation Park, Ormskirk.
Young people, adults and families are welcome and the weekend
activities are a chance to be more active and preserve the local
environment.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services and
Health, said: "As we prepare for the arrival of spring, residents
can join in our March events and experience West Lancashire's
wonderful countryside locations. If you take an interest in the
environment or want to learn, you can meet likeminded people and
pick up conservation tips from the Rangers. You could even improve
your health by coming along to our seasonal walk."

Flower Power
Saturday 7 March,
2.00pm
Young people interested in the environment can prepare the park for
spring and learn how to plant daffodils and primroses. The Junior
Rangers Club is for 5 to 13 year olds and booking is essential as
places are limited. Under 8s must be accompanied by a responsible
adult.

Hedgelaying
Saturday 14 March, 2.00pm
Find out more about this traditional skill and help lay hedges
in the park.
Meet at the bandstand, Coronation Park, Ormskirk. Booking
essential.

Tree Planting
Saturday 14 March, 11.00am to 1.00pm
To develop the woodland habitat of the park, take part in this
conservation task day. Support the Rangers as they plant native
broadleaf trees, such as hazel and birch.

Equinox Walk
Saturday 21 March, 2.00pm
Take in Beacon Country Park's fantastic surroundings and enjoy
the start of spring with a walk across the park. It's a great way
to be healthy and will cover 2 miles. Please wear suitable clothing
and footwear for all weather. Dogs welcome, but must be kept under
control.

Wildlife Meadow Maintenance
Saturday 28 March, 2.00pm
Find out more about wildflower meadows and the careful
management they need to flourish. Booking is
essential and can be done from 9.00am the day before the event is
scheduled to take place.

Events take place every month at Coronation Park and Beacon Country
Park. Free event programmes are available from several places in
West Lancashire including all local libraries, Ormskirk Information
Centre, Customer Service Points in Skelmersdale and Ormskirk, and
Beacon Country Park's Ranger Station.
