Trip the light fantastic for Skelmersdale festive
switch-on
Start your festive celebrations early and visit
Skelmersdale Concourse next Friday for the annual Christmas lights
switch-on extravaganza.
On 20 November the shopping complex will be thriving with
characters galore and yuletide entertainment, as visitors gear up
for the season to be jolly for Christmas!
The event starts at 4pm with melodies from Titan the Robot
who will sing classics such as Winter Wonderland and White
Christmas.
Bruce Airhead will also have the crowds enthralled with
his explosive show, while mischievous elves will decorate people
with incredible hats and make hilarious balloon toys to get
everyone laughing.
A beautiful animated life-sized polar bear called Bjorn
will also be welcoming children in his own iceberg environment,
together with his helpful herder Ursula. While two-frosted glam
dancing Jack Frosts will be handing out giveaways.
One of Britain’s top break dancing crews, the Physical
Jerks, will also be wowing the crowds with their fast-paced
routines.
Councillor Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community
Services, said:
"There are plenty of acts on this year to make the
switch-on a lively, exciting festive occasion for both young and
old to enjoy. There’s lots of wonderful characters performing on
stage and exciting dance and entertainment acts - so don’t miss
this great event."
Watch out for the piper just after 6pm who will lead the
Mayor, accompanied by the Mayors Lady, Town Crier, clergy and local
dignitaries as they make their way through the shopping centre to
the stage where awaiting them will be Skelmersdale Prize Brass Band
and Friends in Unison Choir ready to begin the Carol Ceremony at
6.15pm and switch on of the Christmas lights at 6.30pm.
The event is also an ideal time to do some Christmas
shopping as there will be plenty of charity stalls around the
Concourse and the shops will be open until late too.
And don’t forget the following week is Ormskirk’s
Christmas lights switch-on, on Friday 27 November, where all the
action is centred around the town centre and clock tower. Details
will be published nearer the time.
