Awards ceremony for design winners
Winners from the 2009 West Lancashire Design Awards will be
congratulated during a special awards ceremony at Chapel Gallery on
13 October.
The Mayor Cllr Geoff M. Roberts will host the presentation
evening for the eight winners who were given the accolades for
having the best designed buildings in the borough.
They have all helped to enhance the appearance of West
Lancashire’s environment and will be thanked for their commitment
to good design at the ceremony.
This year marks 20 years of the Design Awards and so to
celebrate there is also an exhibition on display at the art gallery
until 24 October. This showcase of photographs demonstrates that
creativity, innovation and quality are constants in obtaining well
designed architecture.
A photographic booklet will also be launched on the night
illustrating all the previous winners, which has been produced by
the sponsors - Homes and Communities Agency which is the
Government’s national housing and regeneration agency and
Places Matter! an innovative programme delivered through
RIBA North West which aims to drive up the quality of place-making
in the Northwest.
Councillor Martin Forshaw, Portfolio Holder for Planning and
Transportation said: "20 years is a real milestone for the Design
Awards and to celebrate the success of the winners over the years
we have produced a really interesting booklet capturing the
highlights over the years. There is also an innovative exhibition
of the best buildings at the gallery for visitors to come along and
see so I’d urge people to have a look before the exhibition
closes."
