Only days are left for residents to give their views on the future development of West Lancashire.

The Borough Council has been conducting a consultation exercise into how West Lancashire will develop over the coming years to 2027. This consultation period is now drawing to a close as the deadline for comments is Thursday 15 October so the Council urge people to take this opportunity to have their say on this important planning document.

Everyone who lives in the borough is being urged to give their views to help make sure that the new homes, jobs and services that West Lancs needs will be located in the most sustainable places.

As part of the consultation exercise the Council has undertaken a number of Spatial Forum workshops across the Borough which has allowed members of the public the opportunity to participate in workshop sessions to discuss the Options and key issues for West Lancashire.

The Council have also sent out a leaflet to households in the Borough entitled ‘Your West Lancashire 2027’ and launched a special website at www.westlancs.gov.uk/2027 to encourage people to have their say.

Cllr Martin Forshaw, Portfolio Holder for Planning, said: "West Lancashire is facing some really important issues as we decide how our borough will develop over the next 20 years. We need to try to meet the aspirations of residents and provide the facilities and infrastructure that people need, while making sure that development is sustainable. Lots of residents have already taken part in this important consultation exercise and I’d urge anyone who hasn’t given their views to grasp this opportunity before the consultation period ends."

More information: the options

The Council has prepared an Options Paper which sets out five separate options for future development to address the key issues of:

  • providing new housing and new jobs

  • meeting the needs of an aging population

  • regenerating Skelmersdale

  • providing for the gypsy / traveller community

  • development of Edge Hill University

The leaflet - Your West Lancashire 2027 - that has been sent to local households summarises the options and gives information about how to find out more and give comments.
