Early Christmas treat for youngsters as work
starts for park
Youngsters will soon have more playtime fun as work has started
to install new equipment at a park in Ashurst.
West Lancashire Borough Council has started replacing the old
play area in Summer Street, Skelmersdale with exciting new
facilities that children and the local community have chosen
themselves.
They were asked to vote for their favourite design at a public
consultation earlier this year and gave the thumbs up to Wicksteed
Playscapes.
Their design has natural play features such as stepping posts, a
nature trail with logs, log ladders and boulders. There are
traditional features such as swings and slides and other modern
equipment such as a tarantula spider net, a zigzag twister, a
hurricane swing and a combat cableway zip slide.
Work is scheduled to take about four weeks to finish and so the
Council will organize an official opening in November - an early
Christmas treat for youngsters.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "Wicksteed Playscapes came up with an innovative design using
natural play features, which youngsters gave the thumbs up to when
they were asked to vote for their favourite one. I’m sure the new
facility will be extremely popular with the youngsters because they
are the people who chose the design and will benefit from the fun
new play features."
