Play an important role in the operation of your local
Council
Are you keen to ensure that local Councillors conduct themselves
to a high standard? If so, we may have just the role for you!
West Lancashire Borough Council is looking for people to join
its Standards Committee.
The Council’s Standards Committee has the job of promoting and
maintaining high standards of conduct for the 54 Borough
Councillors as well as the all Parish Councillors serving on 20
Parish Councils in its area. The Committee has 12 members in total,
five of whom are independent of the Council, thereby ensuring that
the Committee can be both effective and impartial in conducting its
work.
The Council wants to appoint 2 new independent members to serve
on the Standards Committee and is looking for two members of the
public who would be interested in taking on this important
role.
Anyone able to vote in the area can apply and ideally they
should:
-
Reside in West Lancashire
-
Have some knowledge of local government
-
Be prepared to sign and adhere to the Council’s Code of
Conduct
-
Not be a member of a political party, an elected member or
officer of West Lancashire Borough Council or of another local
authority, nor be a close relative or friend of an elected member
or officer of the Council
Cllr Ian Grant, Leader of the Council, said:
"We want to ensure that our governance standards in West
Lancashire continue to be excellent and the Standards Committee has
a very important role to play in achieving this. If you have a keen
interest in maintaining and promoting high standards of conduct in
public life we want to hear from you."
The closing date for applications is 1 December. For more
