Let your imagination run wild with Youth Open and Objects of Desire

Craft makers and young people will be showcasing their talents at two popular exhibitions that are about to be unveiled at Chapel Gallery.

Visitors will be enthralled with this year’s Youth Open, which opens to the public from 31 October, followed by the annual innovative Objects of Desire exhibition, which can be viewed from 7 November.

Imaginary Landscapes was the theme for this year’s Youth Open and the selection of works that has been chosen by the judges for display shows how the youngsters have let their imagination run wild as to the kind of environment they’d like to live in. There are lots of weird and wonderful characters featured in these magical fairylands, and the young artists have used a range of techniques from paintings, drawings, 3D, collage, photography and textiles to reflect their ideas.

Hot on its heels is ‘Objects of Desire’, which brings together established makers and fresh talent who put forward an innovative collection of contemporary craftwork. Artworks include striking collections of ceramics, glass, jewellery, metalwork and textiles. The exhibition considers our continued fascination with contemporary craft and design objects as society becomes more design aware.

This exhibition also provides the ideal opportunity to purchase original pieces as perfect Christmas gifts.

Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: "It’s a double delight at Chapel Gallery as these two popular annual exhibitions come to town as both reflect the sheer diversity of work and talent we have here in West Lancashire. The Youth Open shows that we certainly have lots of budding artists in the making who I’m sure will have successful careers if they choose to progress their creativity. While Objects of Desire brings together an abundance of unusual and unique crafts that capture the imagination."

You can visit the gallery off St Helens Road, which is free, anytime from 10.00am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday. The café is open from 10am to 4pm.
