Winner is announced for Summer Street play
area
Youngsters and the local community have given the thumbs up to
their favourite design for new play equipment in Ashurst,
Skelmersdale.
West Lancashire Borough Council is replacing the old play area
in Summer Street and to ensure that children get the facilities
that most suits their needs, they were given the opportunity to
vote for the design they liked best at a public exhibition on 19
August.
Residents were able to choose from six different designs during
the public consultation and the winner was Wicksteed
Playscapes.
The chosen design was a big hit with the local community for its
variety of exciting ideas and its natural play features such as
stepping posts, a nature trail with logs, log ladders and boulders.
There are traditional features such as swings and slides and other
modern equipment such as a tarantula spider net, a zig zag twister,
a hurricane swing and a combat cableway zip slide.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "It was great to see that lots of people of all ages
including children, families and the older community took the
opportunity to vote for their favourite design. There were lots of
many interesting ideas to choose from but the winner was Wicksteed
for their innovative design using natural play features. I’d just
like to thank the designers for their creative efforts and everyone
who took the time to vote."
Local consultation had already resulted in support for the
Summer Street play project with the chosen location being at the
existing site. So now that the community has chosen their favourite
design, work will start on site in the Autumn time to build the new
play area.
