£40,000 improvements for Halsall Lane Park
Youngsters in Ormskirk can spend their summer holidays enjoying
a new play area as work at Halsall Lane Park is completed.
West Lancashire Borough Council has invested £40,000 improving
the park. The council worked with the local residents’ association
to find out exactly what people wanted to see. Three main areas
were seen as a priority - a new children’s play area, improved
landscape work and additional park furniture.
Work started at the beginning of July. It has now been completed
and local children can look forward to enjoying the new
facilities.
The council will continue the improvement work by carrying
out a bulb-planting project later in the year with local
schoolchildren. This will bring a colourful boost to the
park next spring. The council also intends to install new seating
in the park.
Another new play facility, at Summer Street in Skelmersdale,
also offers an opportunity for young people to make the most of
their time off to enjoy the new equipment catering for a wide age
range.
The facility boasts equipment including a zip wire, hurricane
swing and climbing equipment. Located within the surroundings of
the Tawd Valley Park, this makes it an ideal open space for
families to visit and enjoy.
Councillor Andrew Fowler, portfolio holder for Community
Services and Health, said: "This new play area in Halsall Lane Park
is a fantastic facility for children in Ormskirk which will bring
real benefits to the community. We have listened to the views of
local people to make sure the improvements are what they want.
"The whole park now looks much better and it’s great news that
everyone will be able to take advantage of it during the school
holidays. Families in Skelmersdale should also benefit from the new
equipment installed at Summer Street."
The Council also plans to carry out improvements in Skelmersdale
to Stanley Coronation Park and play facilities in New Church Farm
later this year.
