Your West Lancashire 2027

Are you interested in what happens in your local area? Do you want to see a stronger, better West Lancs?

If so, you need to get involved in the Core Strategy for the area. This is your chance to have your say on how West Lancashire will develop between now and 2027.

Everyone is being urged to give their views to help make sure the new homes, jobs and services West Lancashire needs will be located in the most sustainable places.

West Lancashire Borough Council is sending a leaflet to every home in the area and is launching pages at West Lancashire 2027 to encourage people to have their say. There will also be meetings where residents can find out more during the six-week consultation period, which runs from 12 May to 24 June.

Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for Planning, said: “West Lancs is facing some really important issues as we decide how the area will develop over the next 20 years. We need to try to meet the aspirations of residents and provide the facilities and infrastructure people need, while making sure that development is sustainable.

“I urge people to get involved because we want your input into these plans. To find out more, read the leaflet, visit the website, come to a meeting or look at the documents at the library. Whatever you choose – make sure you have your say.”

The Preferred Options

The council has prepared a Preferred Options paper, which puts forward new policies, which cover:

  • Providing housing, including affordable and specialised housing
  • Creating new jobs
  • Regenerating Skelmersdale
  • Gypsies and travellers
  • Edge Hill University
  • Green Belt release
  • Transport
  • Environment

It also gives information on where the council would prefer development to take place.

A leaflet – Your West Lancashire 2027 – is being sent to local households and summarises the policies and gives information about how the public can give their views.

Notes for editors

The Preferred Options Paper represents the next milestone in the preparation of the Core Strategy and the delivery of the West Lancashire Local Development Framework, which will supersede the existing Replacement Local Plan.  It aims to make sure new homes, jobs and services required by communities are located in the most sustainable places. It will also deliver the necessary infrastructure, facilities and other development to make this possible.
