Walk around wonderful West Lancs
Stretch your legs and get out and about this month with the
welcome return of the West Lancs Walking Festival.
This year’s programme of walks runs until the end of August so
there is still plenty of time to get out there and get involved.
With a variety of walks to suit all ages and abilities there is
bound to be something to suit everyone. There are long walks, short
walks, informative walks, walks just for ladies, fun walks for
kids, walks for the whole family - even walks for your pet dog!
You can join the popular Chapel House walk and discover
fascinating facts from the Skelmersdale Heritage Society. Take part
in one of numerous 'stroll with an expert' events, learning from
archaeologists, flora and fauna experts and other knowledgeable
locals.
There is even the opportunity for children to take part in a
Wildlife Survey and fun for the whole family on the fabulous ‘Bat
Walk’, where you can get the chance to use special detectors to
listen to the resident bats in Beacon Country Park, Up Holland.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services
said: "This year the walking festival has a huge variety of walks
on offer, all over the district and I would encourage everyone to
get involved. The summer is a perfect time to get out there and
explore the district, and even though the weather has been bad, a
good walk is enjoyable whatever the weather. So dig out your
waterproofs and get walking - and with a bit of luck the sun might
even shine!"
All walks are free and take place at a variety of locations across
the district. Sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing to suit all
weather conditions must be worn.
