The District Council's Environmental Management
System
Our commitment
As a member of the local community, the District Council has a
moral obligation to put its own house in order and contribute
towards local sustainability. It is committed to implementing an
environmental management system to improve its environmental
performance in a systematic manner on all fronts, and out ambition
is to obtain certification to BS ISO 14001 in due course. This is a
major undertaking, and we are beginning the process with our
operations base at Stanley Depot in Skelmersdale.
What has been done to date?
In relation to Stanley depot, activities have been reviewed and
their potential impact on the environment assessed. An
environmental policy statement has been adopted which sets out the
Council's commitment to:
- Comply with environmental legislation
- Monitor the impact of its operations on the environment
- Make continuous efforts to minimise adverse environmental
impacts and maximise environmental benefits
- Minimise the generation of waste, use of energy and consumption
of resources
- Promote awareness and good environmental practices by local
residents and contractors
We are currently developing a set of actions to contribute to
these undertakings.
