Domestic treatments

Having a pest control problem in your home can be very distressing. The Council's Pest Control service offers an effective and cheap service. Trained pest control officers will ensure your pest problem is dealt with quickly and with minimum disruption.

Book a pest control appointment

If you would like us to help, you can now book and pay for a pest control appointment quickly and simply online. The booking form is available 24/7 and you can use it to tell us about the problem, select an appointment during the morning or afternoon that suits you and pay for it all in one transaction. It's that simple!

Alternatively, you can also call 01695 577177 to book and pay over the telephone during office hours. We will then provide you with more information about the treatment and arrange a convenient time for one of our officers to call.

Charges

A one-off charge of £40.32 is made for all pest control treatments. If 2 or more pest species require treatment, a charge of £12.00 (per additional pest species or per additional wasp nest) is made.

As you can see, the cost of either an insect or rodent treatment represents terrific value when compared to the cost of the products used and the degree of control offered. You can also be confident that all our officers adhere to strict safety guidelines to when handling and administering poisons.

Concessions for rat and mouse treatments

A 50% discount is available for rat and mouse treatments only. The total cost of the concessionary treatment is therefore £20.16. This concession is only available to households that are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
  • Housing benefit
  • Council tax benefit

Please note that the officer will need to see proof of your benefit claim at the time of treatment.

Rodent treatments

The rodent pests we treat in domestic properties include rats, mice, moles and squirrels. Due to the nature of rodent pests and the work required to achieve control, our officers will need to make several visits to your home.

We'll arrange to visit your home, by appointment, and assess the full extent of the rodent problem. We will then start a programme of baiting that is specifically designed to control the rodent pests at your home. We will then revisit your home on a weekly basis until the treatment is successful. We therefore aim to treat the majority of rodent pest problems in four visits.

Insect treatments

We are able to treat a wide range of crawling and flying insects including wasps, ants, fleas, bedbugs and cockroaches.

We will arrange to visit your home, by appointment, and assess the full extent of the insect problem. We will then treat the problem using methods that are specifically suited to kill the insect pests species concerned. As the insecticide continues to work for several days after we have treated your home, we aim to successfully treat nuisance insect pest problems in only one visit.

Due to the resources and time required to treat a feral bee nest safely and successfully, the Council does not provide a treatment service for feral bee swarms / nests. However, in most cases, a beekeeper will be able to remove the bees. Details of how to find a local beekeeper can be found at the British Bee Keepers Association (external link) website.

It can be easy to confuse a wasp nest with a bee swarm/nest. Our wasp and bee factsheet (Adobe PDF format, 271kb) provides information on the most common bees and will help you identify which insect is causing concern.
