Aids and adaptations
The Council work in partnership with Lancashire County Council
and the Occupational Therapy Service to provide a home adaptations
service for disabled people.
The service aims to help with access into and around the
home including basic amenities such as bathing.
Anti social behaviour
Tackling anti social behaviour is a priority for the Council and
its community safety partners.
This leaflet gives advice about reporting anti social behaviour
and what action the Council can take to deal with it.
Asbestos
This leaflet is all about asbestos, what it is, where it may be
found in your home. It will also inform you on how to ensure that
you, your family or anyone visiting or residing with you are not
put at risk.
Comments, compliments and complaints
The Council’s aim is to get things right first time.

or how to complain if things go wrong.
Damp and condensation
The majority of damp in homes is caused by condensation.
This advice leaflet will provide you with some simple steps
you can take to help avoid a build up of moisture in
your home which will prevent damp.
Empty home standard
It's important to us that all the homes we let are of a good
standard. To ensure your home is in a good state of repair and
ready for you to move in, we carry out a detailed survey of it
and complete any necessary repair works whilst it is
empty.
The empty home standard leaflet tells you about the
standards you can expect when you move into your new home.

Fencing and boundaries
We appreciate that it is difficult to
understand our policy regarding fence repairs so we have put
together this leaflet to try and help resolve any issues that you
may come across.

Gas servicing
The Council is legally required to carry out a safety check
on your gas appliances every 12 months. We are committed to your
safety and we take our responsibilities on gas safety very
seriously.
This leaflet advises you what the council's responsibilities are
and what your responsibilities are as a tenant.

HomeFinder scheme guide
West Lancs HomeFinder is the new way to find and rent a home
from the Council. You can use HomeFinder to find out what’s
available and to bid for a new home.
It's for existing tenants who want to move to a different
council property as well as for people who haven’t rented from the
council before. This leaflet will explain how HomeFinder works.
Introduction to tenants' & residents'
forum
This leaflet tells you about the benefits of becoming a
member of the tenants' and residents' forum and gives you all
the information you need to decide whether you would like to become
a member or not.
There's also an application section you can complete and
return should you wish to join.
Introductory tenancies
An introductory tenancy is a trial tenancy. This usually lasts
for 12 months but can be extended by a further 6 months.
This leaflet gives you information on who introductory tenancies
apply to plus how and why the council uses them.
Jargon buster

Neighbour nuisance advice
All kinds of nuisance to your neighbour can be avoided by you
being considerate in the way you live in your home.
This leaflet highlights some of the most common types of
nuisance and provides advice on what you can do to tackle neighbour
nuisance.

This leaflet provides advice to Council tenants on when rents
are due, how to pay and who to contact if you are having
difficulties.

Rent and money advice
Did you know West Lancashire Borough Council has a specialist
money advice team? We can offer you free and confidential advice
about your financial situation, whatever the problem.
This service is exclusive to council tenants, whether you are
single or part of a family, we may be able to help you.
Repairs booklet
This booklet is designed to help you identify everyday
repairs in your home, there are illustrations and useful
explanations on common repairs. If this booklet is used every time
you report a repair, it will help us to complete the work in a
shorter time.
Repairs appointment system
This leaflet has been
produced to tell you all about our new appointment system
for repairs, which is being introduced in spring/summer
2012.
Sheltered housing
The sheltered housing booklet is produced by the Sheltered
Housing team and is given to all new tenants. The booklet will
provide you with information you may find useful during your
tenancy and will advise you of the various policies relating
to the day to day running of the scheme.
Sheltered housing support plan
All tenants living in sheltered housing complete a support plan
with their Scheme Manager to help us to identify things that you
need assistance with, and provide you with the best support for
your needs. This booklet covers everything you need to know about
your support plan.
Transfer incentive scheme
Would you be interested in moving to a smaller property with
help from the Council? You may be eligible for the transfer
incentive scheme. This advice leaflet gives information about
eligibility and incentives to downsize.
Valuing your differences
The Council recognises that local people come from ever
widening backgrounds and have different cultures, experiences and
needs. This leaflet explains what information the council collects
and how it is used to help us provide equal access to our
services.
What to do when a tenant dies
When someone dies it is a very distressing time for their
relatives and close friends. If you have to arrange the funeral and
settle their affairs, you will be faced with many things which seem
confusing and stressful at an already difficult time. This leaflet
will help you when dealing with the tenancy of the person who has
died.
