Private Sector House Condition Surveys are carried out on a
regular basis by local councils as a way of maintaining a detailed
picture of housing conditions in the private sector. The private
sector includes owner-occupiers and privately rented accommodation.
The Council's Housing Department carries out a separate survey of
council houses.
The results of the survey help us to decide where to target
resources and what new services may be needed. It also
helps us to bid for money for specific projects.
The last survey was carried out in July 2010 and 1,000
properties were surveyed. The Council also carried out a Health
Impact Assessment which examines the cost of poor property
conditions to the National Health Service.
