Road Safety: speeding

The West Lancashire Crime and Disorder Partnership is helping deter drivers from speeding by giving the Police £6,500 to buy two hand-held laser devices. The speed guns let the Police target 'hot spot' areas that are renowned for accidents, and will help to reduce the number of people killed or injured on the roads.

You decide which areas are monitored

The local community can help to decide which areas the Police should monitor through the Police and Communities Together Meetings (PACT) - a regular monthly meeting between the Police Community Beat Managers and local residents.

How is the scheme working

Since the scheme started in April 2005 West Lancashire's Police Community Beat Managers have spent over 80 hours engaged on high visibility speed reduction activities resulting in 76 Fixed Penalty Notices being issued to drivers with a further 61 motorists receiving verbal warnings regarding the standard of their driving.
