Caring for someone

The government website DirectGov's section about Caring for Someone (external link) has a comprehensive range of information if you're looking after someone who needs support.

Directgov links:

Introduction to caring (external link): information about being a carer for someone who has a disability (including children) and the support you may be entitled to following an assessment of your needs.
Support services (external link): advice about day-to-day support available and also the types of equipment that can help the person you care for live more independently.
Money matters (external link): tells you about how the costs of care services are worked out and the financial support you may be entitled to as a carer, including Carer's Allowance.
Health and taking a break (external link): information about the services that your local authority may provide to allow you to take a break from caring, plus some ideas about looking after yourself.
Carers in education or employment (external link): gives information about combining caring for someone while studying or in employment including returning to work and flexible working.
Helpful contacts (external link): from both non-government sources such as charities, organisations and support groups and from government departments.
