If you are looking to organise a small-scale public event such
as a walking day parade, school procession or Remembrance Day
parade and your local neighbourhood policing team have agreed to
police your event, you need to apply to the Council for an
Order.
Under section 21 of the Town Police Clauses
Act 1847, the Order will give directions to the Police to manage
and direct traffic to prevent obstruction of the streets.
You must contact the Police
in the first instance.
We will consult with the Highways Authority to
ensure that your event does not conflict with any other event or
that there are no planned works along the roads on the same
day. The Council will only make an Order if the Police can
police the event and the Highways Authority has no objections.
Events will be considered on an individual
basis.
How to apply
The event organiser should contact us with
details of the event a minimum of 8 weeks before it is due to take
place. Please provide:
- The times and date of the event
- A map clearly showing the route of the
parade
- Confirmation that you have been in touch with
the Police and that they will police the event for you
