The Building Control service

What we do

We carry out a range of work to ensure that buildings are safe, including:

  • Provide general advice
  • Check plans
  • Carry out site inspections
  • Issue a Completion Certificate following a satisfactory final inspection
  • Carry out SAP Assessments and provide Energy Performance Certificates for new build dwellings
  • Deal with dangerous buildings and demolition of buildings
  • Give advice on designing building access and facilities for disabled people

Building Regulations apply to most new buildings and certain alterations. They may also apply when the use of a building is changed. Charges are made for checking plans and for site inspections and vary according to the work involved.

In addition to needing Building Regulations Approval, most building work (including alterations and changes of use) will require Planning Permission.
