What the Heritage and Environment team does
- Help preserve the borough's built, natural and cultural
heritage.
- Give advice to owners of historic properties on the design of
alterations/extensions, techniques of building repair and the
appropriate materials to use to preserve their special
character.
- Monitor the condition of all the borough's listed buildings and
produce a 'Building at Risk' (BAR) register.
- Provide specialist advice on planning applications
affecting our heritage, trees and landscape and on matters
relating to climate change and sustainability.
- Carry out conservation area reviews, in consultation with
residents, to preserve and enhance the character and appearance of
these areas.
- Produce guidance information (leaflets, advice notes,
newsletters etc) to help residents understand the issues
relating to our environment.
- Produce strategy documents which help preserve the
borough's important heritage and environment.
- Protect the borough's important trees and woodlands.
- Provide advice on tree maintenance.
- Help promote sustainable development and construction
techniques.
- Provide advice on climate change issues and the ways in which
we can save energy and live greener lives.
