2011 West Lancashire Design Awards - winners announced!
Some of the best designed buildings
in the borough have just received prestigious awards as
the winners of the 2011 West Lancashire Design
Awards.
The
prestigious Design Awards scheme is sponsored by
Places Matter! (external
link). It is an innovative programme achieved through RIBA
NW which aims to drive up the quality of place-making in the
north-west. An award ceremony will take place later in the
year.
This year the judging panel visited
11 short-listed sites and found the standard very high which made
the task of picking the winners even more difficult. The award
winners are examples of where the time and effort put in by
the architects, owners and contractors have produced very high
quality results.
The awards, which have been held since 1989, take place every 2
years and aim to acknowledge and promote the importance of good
quality planned development and building design.
This year, awards were judged in the following
categories:
- New residential developments
- The refurbishment and/or conversion of existing
buildings
- Commercial/community developments
- Schemes and developments which promote the use of sustainable
development
- Landscape design and place-making schemes
2009 marked the 20th anniversary of the West
